Nike is one of the most iconic American brand, recognized instantly around the world with its “Swoosh” logo design. Nike, having presence in more than 120 countries, sells a wide range of products apart from its famous sports shoes.
Formed with just two curved lines, Nike’s simple and creative brand identity has a long list of stories and facts associated with it.
Nike’s Co-founder, Phil Knight, got the logo designed for just $35 in 1971. He was initially not happy with the Swoosh symbol but it later, went on to become one of the world’s most recognizable icons.
Both the brand name and the logo design are inspired by Greek Goddess of Victory. It is believed that Goddess Nike influenced countless brave warriors to win battles of their motherland. The wings of Goddess Nike is called swoosh and is said to have brought motivation and courage to the warriors heading to the battlefield.

But here’s the shocker! The slogan was inspired by the last words of a serial killer. Dan Wieden, who pitched this slogan, revealed that the slogan was inspired by Utah killer Gary Gilmore, who was sentenced to death in 1977 for robbing and murdering two men. Gilmore allegedly said “let’s do it” when he faced his execution.
